Tips for Your Laser

  • Yearly maintenance service assures the perfect performance of your laser
  • Follow the safety advice of the manufacturer and your regulatory body
  • Follow the intended use described in the IFU

Clinical Indication

The 810 nm wavelength is ideal for ablation treatments.

Retina:

  • General retinal applications (endoprobes/LIO)
  • Treatment for retinopathy of the premature (ROP)
  • Tumour ablation

Glaucoma:

  • Transscleral cyclophotocoagulation

Why 810 nm? Wavelength Benefits

The 810 nm wavelength is specifically chosen for its reduced absorption by melanin and hemoglobin. This allows the laser to penetrate deeper into tissues, as the absorption is minimized. As a result, treatments become more precise and effective, with less risk of unwanted side effects on surrounding tissues.

The advantage of the 810 nm wavelength lies in its ability to penetrate the sclera and treat conditions with excessive hemorrhage. This enhanced penetration ensures that the laser can reach deeper layers of the eye.

Embrace the benefits of the 810 nm wavelength with the Merilas 810 Diode Laser, where advanced technology meets clinical excellence. Experience precise treatments with reduced absorption and deeper tissue penetration in your ophthalmic practice.

The Principle of Short-Pulse

The short-pulse treatment mode is characterized by a sequence of bursts comprising microsecond pulses. This treatment mode aims to spare the tissue and minimize scarring by delivering non-visible, sub-threshold laser impacts. It effectively treats various retinal pathologies while avoiding ophthalmoscopically observable laser effects on the treated tissue. The short-pulse treatment is commonly utilized for sub-visible threshold laser treatments targeting the macular and perimacular areas.

New Laser Therapy Treatment

Current applications:

  • Glaucoma: Transscleral cyclophotocoagulation
  • Retina: Retinopathy of the premature
  • Sub-retinal choroidal neovascularization

Transscleral Cyclophotocoagulation (TSCPC) Treatment

  • The ciliary body produces aqueous humor.
  • To decrease the production of aqueous humor, the ciliary body can be treated with a laser aimed at disrupting its structure. This process is known as ablation. ShortPulse technology enables a gentle treatment approach while achieving significant reduction in intraocular pressure (IOP).
  • When conventional medications and treatments have proven ineffective, particularly in the advanced stages of glaucoma, TSCPC has demonstrated remarkable effectiveness and safety in reducing intraocular pressure.

Accessories

The standard accessories include a foot switch, transport case, and safety goggles. The delivery systems include laser indirect ophthalmoscope, transscleral probes, and laser endoprobes. The optional accessories include an external fan.

  • Foot switch: The foot switch is used to turn the laser on and off. It allows the surgeon to operate the laser without using their hands, which can help improve accuracy and reduce the risk of accidental firing.
  • Transport case: The transport case is used to store and transport the laser safely. It helps protect the device from damage during transportation and storage.
  • Safety goggles: The safety goggles are worn by the surgeon and other personnel in the room to protect their eyes from the laser light. They help prevent eye damage and reduce the risk of accidental exposure to laser radiation.
  • External fan (optional): The external fan is used to cool the laser device during operation. Lasers generate a lot of heat, and the external fan helps prevent the device from overheating and potentially malfunctioning.

Delivery Systems: LIO Features

The delivery system for the Merilas 810 laser platform is optimized for exceptional performance. The laser is delivered coaxially with the user’s viewing axis, ensuring precise targeting and accuracy. The system features a standard LED module with a neutral LED cooler color that provides bright illumination while also extending battery life. The high-contrast optics and built-in filters further enhance the precision and effectiveness of the laser. Additionally, the system has an intelligent optical system that can automatically adjust the optics and mirrors for optimal performance. Finally, the delivery system comes with a high magnification lens that provides an additional 1.6x magnification for even greater precision and accuracy.

Delivery Systems: Probes

At Merilas, we take pride in our delivery systems, specifically the meticulously crafted probes manufactured by EMTRON. These probes undergo rigorous quality control to ensure the highest standards are met. The polished fibre surfaces are of exceptional quality, resulting in laser spots that are uniformly distributed with consistent power across the entire treatment area. This ensures an even and effective treatment, eliminating any potential risks associated with the formation of “hot spots.”

Our endoprobes are designed with safety as the utmost priority. Each probe is assigned a unique serial number, ensuring the highest level of traceability for comprehensive monitoring and accountability. To further guarantee patient safety, all endoprobes are CE-marked, complying with strict European standards for medical devices. Additionally, each probe is individually sterilized for single-use, eliminating any risk of cross-contamination and ensuring a safe and hygienic procedure for every patient.
